My musical journey had humble beginnings, there were no instruments in the house and I was not fortunate enough to have any family members or friends who played instruments, though they are were all lovers of music. I attribute a lot of my musicality to watching Disney’s 1940 ‘Fantasia’ around 1000 times as a toddler and hearing the music being played in my house and on the radio. Around the age of 15 I began teaching myself to read music out of a very old and worn guitar method book, I always have a distinct memory of how all the pages had turned a brownish-yellow due to the book’s decomposition and think how no one in this digital age would ever learn that way again. Around this time my brother started receiving guitar lessons due to his new found interest in Guns and Roses and Metallica, and I would sit in the next room and overhear his lessons, though he soon gave up and I started getting lessons with his teacher. After some Conservatorium guitar grades, TAFE certificates/diplomas in music performance and a Bachelors Degree of Music in Contemporary Performance from AIM, I find myself doing a Bachelors Degree of Education at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and continuing the journey.
